Teachers of ecology department Z.G.Zhokusheva, S.K.Kozhevnikov and 3 year student S.Taishibai took part in the International Winter Water-birds Census. Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) organizes the census in Kazakhstan.

The main purpose of the synchronous census is an obtaining the reliable data about population and its changes for water-birds, among which there are many important and rare species. The predictions of species situation and measures for it preservation are being made on the basis of these materials.

Teachers watched birds on such water bodies as the Tobol river of Kostanay, Sokolovsko-Sarbaiskiy ponds of Rudny, Karatomarsk reservoir. They discovered that the mallard duck and gadwall are spending the winter here.
