Increasing the motivation of students studying foreign languages

On March 18, 2019, a joint Russian-Kazakh Round table "Increasing the motivation of students studying foreign languages in the modern educational environment" was held online. The participants of the event were the teaching staff of the Department of German Philology of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin and the teachers of the departments of foreign languages, foreign Philology and practical linguistics of A. Baitursynov Kostanay state University. The Round table was organized by teachers of foreign languages Department together with Aitkuzhinova Saule Nortasovna, head of the laboratory of innovative educational technologies of the educational-methodical Department of KSU.

After the opening speech of the moderators of both universities, two oral reports from both sides were presented. Along with experienced teachers, Ph. D., Associate Professor of the German Philology Department Deryabina Natalia Alekseevna and Senior Lecturers of the Department of foreign languages Zavitova Tatiana Yurievna and Markelova Diana Mikhailovna, young teachers Nikolina Natalya Nikolaevna, the teacher of German Philology department and Bukreyeva Regina Andreyevna, Master of Arts of the Foreign Philology Department, shared their vision of the problem and ways of its solution.

Summarizing the accumulated experience in pedagogical Sciences the reporters highlighted the theoretical principles of the discussed issues and suggested ways of the development of students’ motivation. During the discussion, the teachers of both departments expressed their views on the issue under discussion and shared information on various ways to increase the motivation of students, including self-study of foreign languages.

The event of this magnitude was held not for the first time. Last year, the topic of the discussion was "Problems of teaching foreign languages for students of non-linguistic specialties". We hope that in the future the joint discussion of various aspects of teaching foreign languages online will become a good tradition which will contribute to the improvement of the quality of teaching foreign languages
