Kostanai State University is one of the leading regional universities of the northern Kazakhstan, which is named after the outstanding educator, scientist Akhmet Baitursynov. He is a prominent public and political leader of Alash party, pedagogue, litterateur, and a reformer of the Kazakh alphabet. He is one if those who are proudly can be considered as a spiritual teacher of the nation. Akhmet Baitursynov deserves to have his name been immortalized by grateful descendants. He will remain immortalized forever for streets, squares, schools, and universities got his name. Kostanai State University was named after Akhmet Baitursynov by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Resolution № 384 of April 3, 1996. Since, hundreds of young specialists have been graduating from the university, who are proud of the university diplomas and its high-quality education. On September 24, 1998 the university opened the museum of Akhmet Baitursynov dedicated to his 125th anniversary. The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kyrymbek Eleuovich Kusherbayev and writer Abdikov Tholen opened the museum. There are materials of the university expedition "Ak zhol", original books of Akhmet Baitursynov, household items, historical documents in the halls of the museum.

By the initiative of KSU staff and Kostanai society, one of the main streets was named after Akhmet Baitursynov. A memorial plaque to the victims of the political repression in the 30s was opened, and the stone of the future monument to Akhmet Baitursynov was laid.

A significant event in the life of the whole republic was the opening of the A. Baitursynov monument by our President Nursultan Nazarbayev on September 15, 2000, who called A. Baitursynov a teacher of the nation. Akhmet Baitursynov’s sculpture, composition and architecture of the entire area were developed by a team led by a famous sculptor Tulegen Dosmaganbetov. The event was attended by residents of the city and the region, many prominent scholars and public figures of the republic, such as a head of the Institute of History and Historiography Manash Kozybaev, chairman of the Abylaikhan International Fund, chairman of the Kazakh Society for the Protection of Monuments and culture, chairman of the Sh.Valihanov Public Council.

Today, the monument of Akhmet Baitursynov is the hallmark of Kostanai city. Meeting of officials and guests usually begins with it. On the square of Akhmet Baitursynov are usually held the most significant events in the life of the university and Kostanai city, for example, the opening of regional festivals "Student Spring", meetings with famous people, Nauryz, other parties and events.
Freshmen’s student life begins with the monument of Akhmet Baitursynov. On the square Baitursynov on September 1, the first exciting call is given to them, inviting them to step courageously into the temple of knowledge. Newlyweds lay flowers at the monument of the great educator, considering it an honour.
It is symbolic that a classical form of the main university building, monument, street and square of Akhmet Baitursynov are located in a picturesque area in the city center, creating a unique architectural ensemble.
Kostanai State University is proud of its name. The university has moved to a three-tier model of training – Bachelor-Master-PhD. The system of quality management has been implemented and certified, a credit system and distance learning technologies are developing. The university has passed institutional accreditation, and signed the Great Charter of Universities. In the general ranking of Kazakhstan universities in 2012, A. Baitursynov Kostanai State University took the 6th place among multidisciplinary higher education institutions; as for the specialties, the university took the 2nd and 3rd place. Now A. Baitursynov Kostanai State University is one of the largest universities in Kazakhstan, which is the leading educational, scientific, methodological and cultural center of the northern region of the country.
