Logvin Viktor Nikolayevich

Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor. Head of the Research Laboratory of Archaeology of Ob Surgut University.

He was born in 1943. He began his career in 1959 working in Turgay geophysical expedition of North Kazakhstan Geological Survey. From 1962 to 1965. he served in the Soviet Army. In 1966 – 1967, worked as carpenter in Kustanai flour mill, then shift foreman of carding shop of Kustanai boot milling factory. In 1968 he enrolled at the Faculty of History of Kustanai Pedagogical Institute. The first archaeological expedition – excavation of Alekseevskoe archaeological complex in 1969.

 

In 1973, after graduating from Kustanai Pedagogical Institute in History, he was sent to work in Turgay regional museum (Arkalyk). In 1977 he was hired to the Department of History of the Faculty of History of Kustanai Pedagogical Institute which was converted to the university. From that time until August 1998, he worked as a lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor, Head of the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of Kustanai State University. He led Turgay archeological expedition, and in 1980 he created the Laboratory of Archaeological Research at Kustanai University. The main objective of the laboratory was to study and protect the archaeological heritage. Under his leadership, several hundred archaeological sites were discovered, and about fifty stationary archaeological sites were studied. In March 1988, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Archaeology" at the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Moscow) on "The Neolithic and Eneolithic steppe Tobol." In 1990, he was awarded the rank of associate professor in the department of history. In 1996, was awarded the title of Professor of the University by the Academic Council of Kustanai State University.


In 1998, as a specialist in archeology was invited to Surgut State University. From that time to 2003, works as an associate professor in the department of history, and then the general history of Surgut State University. Since September 2003, Professor, Department of General History. He teaches "Fundamentals of Archaeology", "Prehistory", optional course "Methods of archaeological works". 

In 2000, V.N. Logvin was appointed head of Surgut University Research Laboratory of Ob Archaeology.
 
In 2002 he defended his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk) on "Turgay deflection in the Mesolithic-Eneolithic eras." Since 2000 Logvin V.N. works in the Peer review of the historical faculty, member of the Scientific and Methodological Council on preservation and use of historical and cultural heritage of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area in the Department of Culture and Art of the government district.

The results of research of V.N. Logvin are well known not only to Russian experts, but also to researchers of the CIS countries, the UK and the U.S. In the scientific literature, he has published more than fifty papers on the history of the Stone Age and Bronze Age of Northern Eurasia, including three monographs.
