Since 1980, in A.Baitursynov Kostanai State University, there is a laboratory of archaeological research, which was created by V.N. Logvin, he was the first chief of Kustanai, and then Turgay archaeological expedition.

Over the years, laboratory specialists found more than 600 archaeological sites in the region, distinguished two archaeological cultures of the Neolithic (mahanzhar) and Eneolithic (tersek) eras.

In the years of Kazakhstan independence, the laboratory staff in found 258 archeological sites Kostanai region (Stone Age settlements and burials of the Bronze Age, burial mounds of the early Iron Age and the Middle Ages). Stationary archaeological research was conducted on 20 monuments. First of all, Bestamak burial ground should be noted, which was recognized as unique and entered the national programme "Cultural Heritage", initiated by the President. The laboratory staff publish articles in scientific journals of Kazakhstan, CIS and foreign countries based on the results of field research. For example, in the last three years, 23 scientific papers on the study of the region were published. Besides, the laboratory staff actively participate in international archaeological conferences of Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries. Foreign experts are actively involved in the study of the archaeological heritage of the region. |

The archaeological club has existed for more than twenty years at the archaeological laboratory, its activity goes beyond the university.
Also an archaeological museum operates in the laboratory. The exhibits located in the display windows were found in Kostanai region. The museum exhibits present each archaeological era of the region – from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages
