In accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 10, 2016 No. 344, order of the Rector No. 14 on personnel dated July 13, 2016 on the basis of Kostanay State University. A. Baitursynov established a military department for training citizens according to the programs of reserve officers.

The tasks of the military department are: preparation of a mobilization reserve of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, other troops and military formations in peacetime, as well as military-patriotic education of young people and raising the image of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Training at the department is carried out on a free and paid basis.

Among all military occupational specialties classes with students carried on working curricula approved by the Department of personnel and military education of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A military department is systematically and purposefully carried out educational and military-patriotic work aimed at developing the high moral and psychological qualities of future officers - defenders of the Motherland.

On May 4, 2018, on the basis of the department, a military-patriotic club " Zhunbek Tarkhan" was created.

Students of the military department are trained in the following main subjects: tactical training, drill, defense against weapons of mass destruction, fire training, Charters of the armed forces of other troops and military units of the Republic of Kazakhstan, military topography, military technical training, etc.
