In connection with the opening of new specialties in the university based on the order number LS-137 of 8 September 1992 there was a reorganization of physics and mathematics faculty, on the basis of which were created two faculties: Economics and Mathematics and Physics and Technology. Officiating Dean of Physical Engineering Faculty was entrusted to Professor Ivan Timofeevich Putiyev. On the Physico-Technical Faculty was established three departments: Department of physics, Department of experimental and theoretical physics and Department of electronics, automatics and computers, whose structure included 13 training and research laboratories. In 1992 a new specialty opened "Software computers and automated systems." In 1993, was held the first olympiad in informatics.

On 1 September 1999 the dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology was the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Bergen Abitovich Kalakov. In November 2001, Mathematics and Physics and Engineering departments were reorganized in Physics and Mathematics. The faculty was approved as follows: Department of Physics, Electronics and bases of production, experimental and theoretical physics, Department of Informatics and Computing Systems, higher mathematics. Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and was appointed assistant professor of higher mathematics Nurlybay Tolepbergenovich Abatov.

In the same year, at the department of informatics and computing systems was formed by the faculty of information and computer technology. The faculty of information and computer technology includes the following departments: computer science and computing systems; applied Mathematics. An assistant professor of computer science and computing systems Abdykarim Tungutbayevich Baymankulov was appointed as dean of the faculty . The number of students at the Faculty of Information and Computer Technology were: full-time - 400 people, by correspondence - 600. From 2006 to 2008, the department was headed by PhD Koval A.P. From 2008 to 2011, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology was the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Nurlybay Tolepbergenovich Abatov. From 2011 to the present time Ph.D. Azamat Aytpaevich Zhikeev is the dean of the faculty.

In the entire history of the faculty called the faculty of information and computer technology, institute of mathematics and computer science, faculty of mathematics and computer science, faculty of information technology, however, the goal remains the same faculty - providing northern region of Kazakhstan highly qualified specialists in the field of mathematics, information and computer technology .  

During its existence the department has trained a huge number of highly qualified professionals working in the field of IT-technology, education, government, law enforcement, financial and private institutions throughout the region and the Republic.
