About the Department

 

Journalism” specialty in KSU was founded in 1996. Since that time over 500 students have graduated , 70 percent of whom work in the media of the republic and abroad.

 

 

In order to develop "Journalism" specialty at the university  "Educational TV studio " was launched.  It became an important element in the preparation of journalism students, a  learning tool  in acquiring journalistic skills. The purpose of educational television studio is the development of information and moral competence, socialization of the individual students through the activities in the studio. 

 

The teaching staff of the department maintains a practical approach in the organization of training sessions. Classes in specialized journalism classrooms  bring the students closer to the formats of professional activities, contribute to the quality and competitiveness of media graduates .

Classes in specialized journalistic audiences bring journalism education closer to the formats of professional activity, contribute to improving the quality of media education and the competitiveness of university graduates.

 

Magistracy and doctoral studies in journalism are successfully functioning. For many years the well-known public figure of the region, the doctor of sociological sciences, professor S.V. Kharchenko. Research activities of scientists and teachers of the department is associated with the analysis of new communication technologies and the study of modern problems of Kazakhstan journalism.

 

Within the framework of international cooperation, students of the specialty “Journalism” of KSU named after A. Baitursynov have the opportunity to undergo training and work experience on the basis of a TV and radio studio and a student newspaper of the journalism department of the South Ural State University (Russia, Chelyabinsk) and also to participate in different creative festivals of student’s mass media. 

Postgraduate and PhD students pass research experience and training in SUSU, HSE NRU, Saint Petersburg University, Belgorod National Research University, and also in Belarusian State University.

 

Students are actively involved in the social and political life of the city, region and university. Many of them are engaged in the studio "Oner" student theater "Zhasorken".

 

With the direct participation of students majoring in journalism youth magazine " Zhasөrken - Kostanay and  newspaper "Bilim zharysy " are issued. The students are actively engaged in preparing the newscast "Zhastar TV"

Scientific areas

  

The research work at the department is conducted in two directions: research work of students and research work of teachers.

 

The research work of students is carried out through their involvement in the scientific circle “Journalism and Creativity”, in which students are engaged in the study of contemporary problems of the media and practical journalistic activities as authors and performers. Here they implement their own creative ideas in the Kazakh and Russian languages.

 

Every year, students submit their own scientific papers to the scientific and practical student conference. The best of them take part in similar forums of the faculty and the university. Thus, Karina Aybibi was awarded the 1st degree diploma at the Best Research Article 2018 International Research Competition; Shayakhmetova Aygerim took the 3rd place in the Republican Contest of Scientific Work for Students; 2nd and 3rd degree diploma in the international competition among students for the best material about work Forum on the hashtag # IFJ2018 awarded Koyshibek Kamshat and Tolepova Aygerim.

Research work of students is carried out under the guidance of teachers of the department. The commitment to scientific research in the field of media of the faculty of "Journalism and Communication Management" was confirmed during the development of the initiative topic "Actual problems of modern Kazakhstan journalism in the context of the development of new information technologies (regional aspect), registered in 2016 at the National Center of Scientific and Technical Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan (reg №0116RK00271, NC STI RK).

 

Every year, the leading teachers of the department publish scientific articles in journals indexed in the Scopus database, in editions recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission, and also take part in the International and Republican scientific-practical and scientific-methodical conferences organized by universities of Kazakhstan, Russia, other CIS countries and abroad.

 

In the period from 2012 to 2014. a scientific project was implemented on the topic “Specificity of the formation of the modern media market as the intellectual potential of the country” under the grant of the Committee on Science of the MES RK. The head of the research project is Zhussupova A.M., Head of the Department, Ph.D., Associate Professor. Young teachers and undergraduates - Markabaeva G.T. and Mustafina B.S.

 

The main scientific problems studied by undergraduates, doctoral students and teaching staff of the department concern the communicative aspects of regional media activities, current problems of journalism in the globalization of the information space, the quality of journalistic personnel. Special attention is paid to the philological aspect of studying modern journalism and media text, the problems of integrated marketing communications of the university, the social modernization of Kazakhstan society.

 


 

 

About international cooperation

 

The Department of Journalism closely supports scientific, educational and methodical ties with universities in Russia and Belarus.

 

According to the program of inviting foreign scientists in the 2016-2017 academic year in the amount of 36 hours of teaching load to the students of the specialty and teaching staff of the department, a professor of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics", Faculty of Communications, Media and Design delivered lectures, doctor of philological sciences I.M. Dzyaloshinsky (RF, Moscow).

 

In international cooperation, students of the specialty “Journalism” of KSU named after A. Baitursynov have the opportunity to undergo training and production practice on the basis of a TV and radio studio and a student newspaper of the journalism department of the South Ural State University (Russia, Chelyabinsk), as well as participate in various creative festivals of student media, scientific and practical conferences of students, undergraduates and doctoral students, young scientists.

 

Students and faculty members maintain friendly relations through scientific cooperation, participation in the International Congress "Public Relations and Advertising: Theory and Practice" (SUSU, Chelyabinsk, Russia), the International Scientific and Practical Conference of graduate students and students "Language. Culture Communication ”(SUSU). In the competition for the best scientific publications of young scientists were presented works representing the best universities in Russia.

 

Among the winners of the competition for the best article in the nomination “Modern PR Practices” was Balazhan Mustafina, a graduate student of the journalism specialty (head: Ph.D. Zhussupova A.M.), who took the 2nd place and received the 2nd Degree.

 

In the competition for the best scientific article in the nomination “Advertising Communication: Psychological, Cultural, Sociological, and Philological Studies”, among the winners was a student Gulfiya Tleuova (head: doctor PhD Mashkova S.N.). She is also awarded a Diploma of 2 degrees.

 

The competition jury noted a thorough study of the topics studied by our young scientists.

 

Students of the specialty “Journalism” also presented their creative works at the “Planet Media” International Competition, which also took place at SUSU (Chelyabinsk) as part of the 1st International Scientific and Educational Forum “Communication Leader of the 21st Century”.

 

Tatiana Nazaruk was awarded with diplomas of 1 degree in the nomination “The best multimedia article”, 2 degrees in the nomination “The Best author column” - Tatiana Nazaruk and Dinara Abdirova.

 

Undergraduates and doctoral students undergo research practice and internship at SUSU, HSE, St. Petersburg State University, BelSU, as well as at the Belarusian State University.
