Department of Agronomy does contract work on "Ecological testing of varieties of spring soft wheat breeding of SBE "Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology" in Kostanai region." Responsible: Akhmet A.Z., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences,  Zharlygassov Zh.B., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Kalimov N.E., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.

The scientists of the department are actively involved in the implementation of the initiative theme "Development of innovative technologies of cultivation and fruit crops in the steppe zone". This research work is conducted in the following areas:

 - Selection of potato in the Northern Kazakhstan . Responsible: Akhmet A.Z., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences ; expected results - bring potato varieties providing higher increase in productivity of tubers by 20-25%  with increased resistance to diseases and pests.

- Improvement of perennial grass seed breeding under Zone 2 in Kostanai region. Responsible: Orazbayev K.S. , Candidate of Agricultural Sciences; expected results - increase in productivity of alfalfa seeds on 1.0 , 1.5 wheatgrass , sainfoin 2 dt / ha

- Biological and ecological foundations of the use of pesticides on crops of spring rape in "Sadchikovskoe" LLP. Responsible: Zhempiisov S.S., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences; expected results - define the effectiveness of the Helix drug against the crucifer flea beetle.

- Agroecological test of varieties and hybrids of corn on southern black soil of arid steppe. Responsible: Shilov M.P., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences; expected results - environmental testing of corn hybrids of Western European and American breeding.

- Scientific basis of biologization of field rotations in the subzone of southern black soil in Kostanai region. Responsible: Shilov M.P., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences; expected results - identify a set and alternation of grain and oilseed in crop rotation on the principle of crop rotation.

- Variety testing and development of the techniques of fruits, berries, vegetables and potatoes. Responsible : Mishchenko V.V., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences; expected results - introduce productive varieties, providing growth of fruit and berry harvest by 20-25%.

- Soil fertility and productivity of crops at zero and minimum processing technology of southern black soil in Kostanai region. Responsible: Dussebayev B.K., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences ; expected results -  define the parameters of fertility of southern black soil and their changes under the influence of No-Till and Mini-Till.

- Impact of fertilizer systems on the yield of spring wheat and southern black soil fertility of Northern Kazakhstan. Responsible: N.I. Shilov, senior teacher. Expected results - develop organo- mineral fertilizers in crop rotation system which increase the yield of spring wheat by 2.5-4.0 dt / ha.

Teachers of the department annually publish at least 25 papers in scientific journals of international conferences.

Students’ research work

Students actively carry out research work at the department.  The number of students - 122 pers. and about 80 students are constantly engaged in research. Total coverage of the scientific work of students is more than 60.9 %, including: fourth-year- 90%, third-year - 85%, second-year - 30%.

There is also an "Agronomy" research group at the department which includes six scientific problem groups "Agrochemistry", "Agrochemistry ", "Plant Protection ", " Fruit and vegetable growing ", "Crop farming", "Breeding and Seed".  Students annually participate in scientific conferences, national competitions and business projects.
